Online/In Person Personal Training - How It Works

Back when I was starting personal training, I had a dilemma: I knew I could make a huge difference in the lives of my clients, but I also knew that in order to make that difference, they would have to train 2-3 times a week minimum. 2-3 times personal training was 9 to 13 sessions per month, and for that amount of time I would have to charge my clients between $900 and $1300. For many of my clients, this was out of budget.

That’s when I realized: my clients didn’t need me to be present for every minute they exercised. Instead, what they needed was 1v1 time to learn the basics, and then they needed a plan that they could go home and follow.

Online training was never hard for me to imagine. In fact, to this day, I have never had a 1v1 personal training session. Everything I have learned has been from hours upon hours of reading online programs and watching online lesson videos, filming, and correcting myself. I knew my clients could learn partially, or fully online just as I had.

How Hybrid Personal Training Works

The way I handle hybrid in person/online personal training is as a membership. This means that in exchange for a monthly fee, I provide a bunch of services. Here is a step-by-step guide to start your membership, as well as what you can expect:

1. Step 1, choose how many times you’d like to meet in person each month. For the membership, there are two options. Option 1, we can meet for 2, 55 minute personal training sessions per month. The cost of this membership (the “Bronze” membership) is currently $250 per month. Option 2, we can meet for 4, 55 minute personal training sessions per month. The cost of this membership (the “Gold” membership) is currently $450 per month.

Which personal training membership is right for you?  Most people can be successful with the bronze membership, so long as they are able to follow through on the at home program. If you need or want more accountability, or 1v1 support, consider the gold membership. If you don’t know what you need, contact me and we can discuss.

2. Step 2, come in for your first session and we’ll start training. We’ll begin training, and I’ll begin to evaluate your movement skills and conditioning. I will never give you an exercise that is too difficult, and we can always problem solve around around any painful areas you may have.

3. Step 3, order you at home equipment – usually Ultimate Sandbags. Part of that first session will be me evaluating the equipment that is best for you. After we figure out what you need, you can order the equipment so you can start training at home. Equipment expenses are between $175 and $275.

4. Step 4, follow your at home customized workouts. Since I now know which exercises are right for you, I can now write your at home program. This at home program will be on a Google Doc and include all of your exercises, with sets and reps, hyperlinked to clear and concise lesson videos. You’ll feel almost as though I’m right there with you.

5. Step 5, as your body changes, your program changes. As often as we meet in person, I will update your program to accommodate your increased capabilities. For example, f you started at Deadbug level 1, you get to move to Deadbug levels 2- 8 when you’re ready! Your program is not a static program, but one that changes along with your fitness.

Your program can also be adapted for any difficulties that arise. For example, got shoulder pain? No problem, we’ll find a way around it that also makes your shoulder better over time.
