Sport massage was initially a type of massage created to help athletes improve blood circulation and recover faster from athletic events. This was done by focusing on big, broad, repeating strokes, much like one might expect when receiving a swedish massage.  The goal was not to go super deep with pressure, but to keep the body limber and ready to perform at any moment. 


Over time, however, sports massage has come to mean any kind of massage that can help an athlete, whether the goal is improved circulation, removing trigger points, or solving a specific soft tissue problem causing pain. Hence, the meaning of “sports massage” no longer has the same meaning, or refers to a particular style of massage.  Here at Pain Solutions, we use the term “sports massage” to indicate we know how to help and treat athletes through massage therapy.
